Wendy Chen is a student of MA User Experience Design at LCC. She studied her BA in the department of information and communications from Shih Hsin University in Taipei, and graduated in 2018. Her designs focus on human emotions, social concern for the individual, and the relationship between people and city. Her safe running app aims at recommending safe and interesting way to run in Taipei, which was awarded by companies of HTC, Acer and PEGATRON in the “3rd Trans Action Award” in Taiwan. And she often uses illustration and visual elements to tell story.

Exploring how to create an empathic atmosphere to alleviate the pressure that people with diabetes can feel around their family mealtimes.
This project aims to reduce the inequality and emotional stress that people with diabetes can feel in the family dining environment, creating an empathetic family dining atmosphere. Change in diet can make diabetes patients feel marginalised and unequal when the family does not adapt its eating habits to the patient’s dietary needs and restrictions. By designing the appearance of the plate very similar, including the height and size, while the depth of the plate is changed, thereby concealing the food intake consumed for diabetes patients. In this way, patients can feel that there was no difference between themselves and their families when eating while still choosing to control their food portions, and their families would not need to adjust themselves too much in terms of changing their diet.
