Exchange a Cuppa: a neighbourhood ritual to exchange cultural drinks and many things more

International migration is an ever-growing phenomenon that has important implications for members of both the sending and receiving countries. Migrants move to another country, of which they are not native, for a number of reasons such as economic, social, political or environmental. However, these gains come at significant social costs to the migrants and their families. On the other hand, hosts also face issues adapting to proliferation of multi-cultures. Therefore, this project aims to encourage a cross cross-cultural dialogue to ensure that knowledge between cultures occurs seamlessly, and that barriers are broken down. By doing so, it facilitates self-society identity integration for migrants which is seen to promote integration in other aspects, like labor market participation and education. For the hosts, viewing through an inter-cultural lens enables them to foster openness that expands one's spatial, cultural and intellectual horizons. As this study was undertaken in the context of British society, it was revealed that the cohesion between neighbourhoods in super-diverse cities is poor. Therefore, to realise the intention of this project, a social ritual between neighbours has been designed to build community cohesion. An exchange of cultural drinks between a pair of neighbours outdoors is seen to enhance their psychological well-being as well as provide a mindful engagement which goes a long way.
