One Womans Trash...Another Womans Treasure

A sustainably-driven speculative project focused on repurposing food waste as a material. Gabrielle’s ambition was to alter engrained perceptions on food waste and to demonstrate that previously ‘unseen’ waste could be repurposed to help encourage a healthier planet. The paramount objective of this project was not to assess finished products or create beautiful designs, but to facilitate and observe the new understandings that flowed from people’s experience of an experimental materials workshop. Could such a workshop alter previously entrenched views on waste? Can we encourage sustainable living by shining a light on ‘unseen’ waste? This project demonstrates its designer’s determination to restructure the narrative for our waste, encourage people to ‘see’ the possible futures for repurposed waste and facilitate the belief that a sustainable future is both necessary and achievable.
