Engaging Audiences

User Experience Design usually (but not always) involves designing for people. In order to communicate ideas, develop concepts, test designs, and provide enriching or critical experiences it is necessary to engage people. Engagement means that people pay attention with mind and body to desig output. This can be done in many different ways that might include spatial, visual, sonic and haptic experiences. Engaging audiences also means presenting compelling ideas clearly and concisely so that the essential elements of an idea are communicated. People act and think in unique ways and react differently depending on their personal, social, and physical contexts. This means engaging audiences should account for diversity and consider who is excluded or marginalised by a design or an experience.
