Communicating Ideas

Designers communicate their ideas by externalising them in various forms. These can be drawings, performances, models, or interactive prototypes. Usually communicating ideas also involves written and spoken words in the form of explanations and descriptions. The purpose of communicating ideas may be to share, convince, critique or sell but almost always means transferring ideas from one person to another using language. Developing a command of the language we use to communicate ideas is a key competency for any design field. UX is a convergent discipline which means there are a wide range of communicative strategies available. Communicating ideas is also a matter of fitting form to content – the mode of communication used needs to be appropriate for the content being communicated.
