Agility

As a design competency agility refers to the ability for designers to adapt the way they think depending to the type of work they are doing, and the people they are collaborating with. Agile processes in software production incorporate iterative concept development and testing, but they scrupulously avoid criticality. Agility as a design competency means putting critical thinking at the centre of design practice. Adapting a critical stance to different situations implies generating a core critical idea at the centre of design practice and bringing that idea through from ideation to implementation. Throughout the design process the critical stance adopted for any project will come under stresses including commercial, time, and resource allocation pressures. The ability for designers to be agile in the preservation of that stance allows them to work successfully across different domains.
